
In response to the COVID-19 crisis:
After prolonged conversation, weighing the merits of maintaining our annual STEM Champions/Radicals campaign, the VC STEM Network has suspended the 2020 recognition campaigns.
VC STEM recognizes high quality STEM settings annually through the Golden Gear Award. In addition, VC STEM awards individuals and corporations with the STEM Champion and STEM Radical Awards.
Golden Gear Awards
Golden Gear Awards: The Golden Gear Award is a recognition of educational settings that embody the attributes of high-quality STEM learning as outlined in the VC STEM 3D Tool: Discover, Dream, Design. Applications are invited annually in November from K-12 programs on a rotating basis: Even-numbered years- Early Learning, Elementary and Expanded Learning programs; Odd-numbered years – Middle School, High School, and Expanded Learning Programs for older youth (Expanded Learning includes any programs offered outside of the school day).
These programs provide STEM education directly to students during school hours or out-if-school time.


STEM Champions
The STEM Champion award is given to individuals, companies, and organizations who have been key champions of high-quality STEM learning.
STEM Radicals
The STEM Radical award, is given to STEM Champion who have had a broad impact and sustained effort at enhancing STEM education in Ventura County and who have contributed to the work and initiatives of VC STEM over a three-year period.
